Control Department Manager

Location: Los Angeles, CA
Compensation: $115,000 annually

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Control Department Manager to lead a large, multi-location team within a complex employee benefits administration environment. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, driving process improvements, and implementing automation initiatives while delivering exceptional service to internal and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a strong background in employee benefits, pension administration, union trust funds, or third-party administration (TPA).

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and develop supervisors and staff across multiple locations.
• Oversee department operations, compliance, reporting, and quality assurance.
• Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and workflow efficiencies.
• Develop and maintain SOPs, policies, and operational controls.
• Establish, monitor, and report on department KPIs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve organizational performance.
• Prepare executive reports, board materials, and performance updates.
• Manage escalated issues involving clients, auditors, attorneys, and employers.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in employee benefits administration, union trust funds, pension administration, TPA operations, or a related environment.
• 2+ years of management or supervisory experience.
• Strong knowledge of ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience with audits, reconciliations, financial reporting, and operational oversight.
• Proven success leading process improvements, automation projects, and KPI-driven teams.
• Advanced Excel and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA, CEBS, CBP, or related certifications.
• Experience supporting union trust funds or multi-employer benefit plans.
• Experience with SQL, reporting tools, automation, data analytics, or AI-driven improvements.
• Bilingual Spanish is a plus.
